Michael Anthony McGoldrick was born on 15th June 1930 and passed on 25th November 2011. He is survived by his wife Margaret Boyd McGoldrick in Alhambra. Also survived by son Patrick McGoldrick; daughters Mary (Ewan) Wright and Anne (Tom) McGoldrick Miller and grandchildren Stephen and Katherine Wright all in Tucson, Arizona. Michael was predeceased by his wife, Katherine Young McGoldrick in 1990.

Dermott A Whelan was born on 4th July 1933 in Kilmallock, Co Limerick and passed on 14th November 2011 in Los Angeles. While attending Loyola Marymount he met Irish born Dorothy King. Dermott and Dorothy were married in 1963. They were both musicians and they shared their love of Irish music with family and friends. Dorothy passed on 13th November 1989 at the age of 50. Dermott and Dorothy are survived by son Kevin and loyal friend, Rina; two daughters, Ramona, Eileen(Sterling) Roberts and two grandchildren Arlee and Seamus Roberts; Dermott’s sister Mary (Mike) Cusack; brothers Tom in New York and P.J.Whelan in Cork City; Dorothy’s sister Monica Martin in Huntington Beach.

Sean Patrick Delaney was born on 27th April 1966 and passed peacefully on Veterans Day, November 11, 2011, in Grand Junction, Colorado in the loving embrace of his family.  Sean is the son of James N. Delaney, resident of Los Angeles and husband of Sue A. Welsh, both longtime activists in the cultural life of the Southern California Irish community.
Sean lived his early life and attended school in the beach cities of Los Angeles County.  At the age of three, Sean started a lifelong love of fishing and boating and enjoyed many happy and memorable days with his family by the ocean.  In his teens, he participated in all-day fishing trips.  He also enjoyed skiing and motocross.

A successful self-taught craftsman in wood and tile, Sean left his fine designs on many homes and businesses throughout Los Angeles.   In 2006, Sean moved his carpentry business to Colorado to be near his daughter and grandsons.  A proud and involved grandfather, Sean was devoted to his two grandsons, Dominik and Dylan Ortiz, reading stories with them and teaching them to appreciate the outdoors and, of course, to learn the art and spiritual values in fishing.
Sean leaves behind his daughter Erin Delaney, Grand Junction, Colorado; father James Nelson Delaney (spouse Sue A. Welsh), Los Angeles; mother Barbara Hoffman, Marysville, Ohio; brother Michael Alan Delaney (spouse Deborah Kasden) Los Angeles; sister Julie Delaney (spouse Guy W. Jones) Los Angeles; and Bonnie Ortiz, partner and companion of many years; and a large Irish clan of cousins and relatives.

Joseph Walter Stockemer was born in Los Angeles April 1925 and passed on 30th September 2011 in La Crescenta. Joseph is survived by his wife, Marilyn; three sons Robert, Joseph and Thomas; daughters in law Betty Lew and Kimberly. Joseph was preceded in death by his sister Helen and brothers Frank and John.

James J. Mallon, 81, died Sunday, September 18, 2011, surrounded by family at his home in Garden Grove, California. Jim was born March 20, 1930, in Bronx, New York to Mary and Charles Mallon. Jim was the youngest of 11 children. He attended Cardinal Hayes High School. He served his country in the Korean War and was awared the Purple Heart. He married the Irish love of his life and Leitrim lass, Rita Cullen, in Los Angels on October 15, 1955. Jim was a man of deep faith in God. He taught by the example of his life the primacy of faith, family, and citzenship. A devoted Yankee and Norte Dame fan, Jim's love of sports made him a favorite. "Pop" had a special place in heart of so many dear freinds, young and old. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Rita; children, Sr. Colleen Mallon, O.P., Ph.D of St. Louis, MO; Charles and Pam Mallon of Mission Viejo, CA; Mary and Gerhard Mallon-Behrens of Corvallis, OR; Jim and Lindy Mallon of Walnut Creek, CA; and nine grandchildren.

Sister Mary Patricia Devaney was born in Menlough, Co Galway seventy six years ago. Sr Devaney was a member of Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for fifty nine years. She passed on September 18th, 2011 in the city of Orange. Sister spent twenty eight years as a school teacher in So California---St Francis de Sales,  St Alphonsus,  Marymount Junior School in Palos Verdes. After retiring from teaching, Sister Devaney became certified in hospital care ministry. Among the facilities she served were Queen of Angeles, Hollywood and the Little Company of Mary in Torrance. Sister Devaney is survived by five brothers: Mikey, Patsy, Eugene, Keiran and Jerry; six sisters: Freddie, Ann, Rita, Sally, Betty and Della; their spouses and families. 

Alma Karin Burnette passed on 10th September 2011 in Harrison Memorial Hospital, Bremerton, Washington. Karin was born in E. Yorkshire, England. She lived in So California for nearly 40 years before moving to Washington State in 2005. Karin is survived by daughter Annie  Murray and her three children Caitlyn, Kieran & Padraig; daughter Stephanie Richards and her children: Geoffrey, Christoph, Nicholas and Anna; and a brother Nicholas Brown in South Africa.


John Myles O'Brien, aged 45, passed on 20th Aug 2011. John was an accomplished musician. His film and television credits include The Break-up, Iron Man, Detroit 187, Four Christmases. John is survived by his wife Tierney; son Declan; parents Jack & Bernadette O'Brien and sisters Valerie, Patricia & Kathleen.

Fr Patrick Meskill was born in Listowel, Co Kerry 83 years ago. He was ordained in 1953 at St Patrick's, Thurles. He served in several parishes in Los Angeles. In 1973 Fr Patrick was appointed pastor of St Julie Billiart, Newbury Park where he served until his retirement in Dec 1995. Fr Patrick passed on 23rd August 2011. Fr Patrick had two priest-brothers who served here in Los Angeles-Fr Francis Meskill (RIP) and Fr Thomas Meskill who is now retired. Fr Patrick is also survived by his sisters Kathleen & Vera and  brothers  Noel & Hugh-all in So California.  Oliver, another brother, resides in Ireland.


Jim Byrne was born in Carlow on 21st Jan 1920 and passed on 30th July 2011. After living in Canada for a few years he came to Los Angeles in the early 1960s. Jim is survived by his sister Stacia in Dublin and eight of her nine adult children. Jim Byrne has now joined two brothers and a sister in heaven.

Father Patrick J. McHugh passed on 27th July 2011. Fr Patrick was born in Cliffoney, Co Sligo on 7th May 1922. He was ordained in 1950. He served in several parishes including St Finbar's in Burbank and Holy Angeles in Arcadia. In 1972  Fr McHugh was appointed Pastor of Nativity parish in Torrance where he served for 25 years. After he retired he remained at Nativity as Pastor Emeritus.

Walter Geraghty, aged 83, passed away in Castlebar, Co Mayo on 20th July 2011. He is survived by his wife Mary, three sons, three daughters and ten grandchildren. His sister, Mary Cox lives in Sun Valley.

Patrick Sheridan, aged 53, passed on 12th July 2011. His mom and dad, Rose and Jim Sheridan predeceased him.
Patrick is survived by his brother John and sisters Rosemarie Snoke and Eileen Wibbeke.


Rev Fr James Toal was born in Scotshouse, Co Monaghan on 17th September 1932 and passed on 28th June 2011 in Burbank. Father James was ordained on 1st May 1958 at St John's Seminary, Camarillo. He served at St Ambrose, West Hollywood, San Juan Capistrano, St Joseph's, Pomona and St Timothy's, Los Angeles. Father Toal was Chaplain for thirty years at St Joseph's Hospital in Burbank. For the past few years Father Toal ministered in the parish of St Charles Borromeo, North Hollywood.
Father Toal is survived by his brothers: Malachy in Montreal, Canada, Bernard in Smithboro, Co Monaghan and Charles in Dublin. 

Monsignor Cyril Navan was born on 7th July 1921 in Clarecastle, Co Clare and passed on 24th June 2011. He was ordained on 24th June 1945 at All Hollows College, Dublin. Father Navan arrived in Los Angeles in 1946 and was assigned to Visitation parish in Westchester. In 1949 he moved to St Patrick's in North Hollywood where he served until 1963. After serving for four years in St Lucy's in Long Beach, Father Navan was appointed Pastor of St Catherine's in Avalon in 1967. In 1971, Cardinal Manning appointed him Pastor of St Cyril's in Encino where he remained until his retirement in 1996. In 1984 Father Navin was named a Prelate of Honor, carrying with it the title of Monsignor. After retiring, Msgr Navan remained at St Cyril's as Pastor Emeritus.

Patrick James Tansey of South Pasadena passed away on 15th June 2011 at the age of 105. Patrick was born in Gurteen, Co Sligo on 16th February 1906. He came to this country in 1928 settling in Pasadena. Patrick met and married Mary Keeley. They had six children. Patrick & Mary Tansey were married for 70 years. Patrick was employed by the Southern California Gas Company for 42 years.
Patrick is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; daughter Kathleen; son Brian; and grandson Brian Pat. He is survived by two daughters--Marypat (Desmond) Curran and Margaret (Joseph) Cupini; two sons--Owen (Mary) Tansey and Kevin (Jeanne) Tansey. Also survived by 27 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren.
Services for Patrick James Tansey took place at Holy Family Church, South Pasadena.  


Rev Fr Michael J. Carroll passed on 26th May 2011 at age 67. He was born in Mill Street, Co Cork. Fr Carroll attended All Hallows College and was ordained in June 1967 for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He served as associate pastor in several parishes and as an educator at St Michael and Bishop Conaty-Our Lady of Loreto High Schools. Fr Michael was pastor of St Lorenzo Ruiz Church in Walnut. Fr Michael Carroll is survived by his brother, retired Bishop Timothy Carroll of Kontagora, Nigeria and his sisters Margaret O'Doherty and Mary Fennessy.

Frank Xavier Flood was born in Dublin in 1928 and passed away in Oceanside on 25th May 2011. His wife of 55 years, Irene passed last month. Frank was an advertising executive with L A Times, N Y Daily News, Denver Post and the San Francisco Chronicle over a thirty year career. Frank is survived by his sons, Tom and Michael, their wives Beth and Monicka; grandchildren Jacky, Chris, Alex, Liam & Sean; great granddaughter Ana Sofia; brothers Donny and Tom; sisters in law Eithne and Niamh and many nieces and nephews. Interment in Kilbarrack Cemetery in Sutton, Co Dublin.

Una Branley McGloin was born on 8th June 1947 and passed away on 16th May 2011 in Co Leitrim after a short illness. Una has joined her husband Patsy McGloin, who passed in 1985, and her mother Lettica Branley in heaven.
Una is survived by sons Joseph and Liam; daughter Samantha; her father Sean Michael Branley in Co Leitrim, sisters Mary Flynn in La Canada, Bernadette and Bridie in Ireland; brothers Sean in Fountain Valley, Cathal in Santa Rosa, Ollie, Eugene and Martin in Ireland. 

Joseph "Joe" Donnelly was born and raised in Tynagh, Co Galway  and passed away, from a heart attack, at his home in Clooncaurha, Kilnamona, Co Clare on 13th May 2011. Married his wife Anne Breen in March 1971. Survived by his wife, Anne; daughter, Lorraine in Kilnamona and son, Declan in Brussels. Joe was a talented, prize-winning musician. He played the flute and tin whistle. Joe's nephew, Michael Patrick Breen resides in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles.  

On the 10th May 2011 Charlie Campbell Crossan left us to join his grandfather (whom he was named after) --Charlie Crossan, the bagpiper playing plumber, in heaven. Seventeen year old Charlie is survived by his mom and dad, Eileen (O'Connell) and Gary Crossan; sister Kelli; grandparents, Pat and Judy O'Connell; and Nan Crossan. 

June Eileen Cremin was born in London on 4th June 1923 and passed on 6th May 2011. June married Cork born William "Bill " Cremin on 17th August 1946 in England. June and Bill returned to Ireland where their oldest child, Michael was born. Michael was just five years old when he passed. In the early fifties Bill contracted to work in the oilfields in Aden for a few years and June returned to family in London. Son Kevin was born in London. In 1957 the Cremin family moved to Toronto, where son Stephen was born. The Cremin Family shortly thereafter moved to Southern California where Bill reunited with many other Irishmen he had worked with in England, Ireland and Canada. William "Bill" Cremin passed on 14th September 2001.
June Cremin's ashes will be buried beside her husband and their son, Michael at St Finbarr's Cemetery in Cork.
June Cremin is survived by sons Kevin and Stephen Cremin; and four grandchildren: Michelle Peters, Brian Cremin, Michael Cremin and Erin Cremin.   


Brian Richard Tansey was born on 31st May 1934 and passed on 27th April 2011. He served ten years in the United States Marines. Brian is survived by three daughters: Noreen (Dr Mark Kasow), Lara (Mark) Gray and Dena Del Balzo; his father, 105 year old, Patrick James Tansey from Sligo; brothers Owen (Mary) and Kevin (Jeanne): sisters Mary Pat (Desmond) Curran and Margaret (Joseph) Cupini; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Brian was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, his mother Mary Agnes Tansey, son Brian Patrick Tansey and  sister Kathleen Tansey Hennessy.

Brian Samuel Connolly Heron was born in Dublin on 24th January 1941 and passed on 9th March 2011 in San Francisco from cancer. Brian Heron was the founder of the Celtic Arts Center in Los Angeles and the Irish Arts Center in New York. His grandfather was James Connolly, the Irish Patriot and a signatory of the 1916 Irish Proclamation during the failed Easter rebellion. James Connolly was condemned to death. Although wounded James Connolly was strapped in a chair by the British and executed. Brian, the grandson, following in the footsteps of his grandfather was a Union Organizer in this country. Brian was devoted to the preservation of traditional Irish language, Celtic arts and culture. Brian Heron is survived by his wife, Belinda, three sons and four grandchildren.

Monsignor Michael Lenihan was born in Castleisland, Co Kerry on 17 September 1925 and passed on 23rd March 2011. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1952 from St Peter Seminary, Wexford. His assignments in Los Angeles included Cathedral Chapel, St Luke's Temple City, St Columbkille's. Monsignor Michael was pastor of St Columbkille's for nine years. He was named pastor of St Lawrence Martyr, Redondo Beach in 1981 where he served for 21 years before retiring. Monsignor Lenihan remained at St Lawrence as pastor emeritus.

Daniel Kane Simpson
passed away at St Jude's Hospital on 23rd March 2011 with his entire family around him. Kane who was 86 years old was born in Philadelphia. His grandparents were from County Derry. Kane, an accountant with ARCO Petroleum, was transferred from Pennsylvania to California, in 1977. Kane and his wife Joanne soon became very active in Irish affairs. Kane served as president of the local chapter of the A O H and also president of Orange County (AOH). Kane is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joanne; two sons Kevin in Seattle and Michael (Rasamy) in Rancho Santa Margarita and two grandchildren, Stephen and Theresa Simpson.


On 9th February 2011 Patrick McEntee left us to join his wife, Noreen (Killeenlea, Co Kerry) who passed on 11th December 2008. Pat was born in Ballybay Co Monaghan on the 12th July 1931. Pat was a well known plastering contractor. He loved his sports, his music and above all his family. He is survived by four daughters: Mary (Jim) Gosnell, Peggy, Patricia (Daniel) Casquilho and Noreen; three grandsons: Scott & Tom Gosnell, Daniel Casquilho; one granddaughter Madeline Casquilho; two brothers Peter & Steven McEntee; five sisters: Mary McNally, Bridget McMahon, Kathleen Lapuyade, Ann Darcy & Teasie McGarry and several nephews and nieces.

Kathleen Coughlin from Newmarket, Co Cork passed on 16th Feb 2011 in Woodland Hills. The funeral mass for "Kitty" was at St Bernardine's on 22nd February followed by burial at Assumption Cemetery in Simi Valley.
She is survived by three daughters: Caroline, Deborah and Donna; son Frank (Patti); two granddaughters Nicole & Elizabeth and a brother Paddy in England. May the Lord have mercy on her gentle soul.

Rev Monsignor James Pierse passed on 22nd February 2011 in Seal Beach, CA. He was born in Tralee, Co Kerry and was the oldest of eight children. Msgr James was ordained on the 24th June 1944 and served at St Pius V and Holy Family, Seal Beach. He was a great Gaelic footballer and an avid golfer. He is survived by several nephews and neices.
