OBITUARIES 2025

FEBRUARY

George Doherty

July 3, 1936 - February 14, 2025

George Doherty

George Doherty took his final breath on earth on February 14, 2025, at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and adventure. He was the last surviving sibling of 12, born on July 3, 1936, in the northwest corner of the Inishowen Peninsula in Dunaff, Donegal, Ireland.

After the loss of his parents at a young age, George spent time in Scotland and England before immigrating to the United States in 1955 to join his brothers and sisters in New Jersey and Los Angeles. It was there that he met and married his beloved wife, Shauneen, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised a family rooted in love, laughter, and strong connections.

George proudly served in the U.S. Army, became an American citizen, and embraced all the opportunities life had to offer. He had a passion for travel, hiking, golf, the outdoors, poetry, and singing Irish songs, and he cared deeply for his family and close circle of friends.

He is survived by his wife, Shauneen; his eldest daughter, Audrey Doherty; his daughter, Geannine Roman; his son, Colm Doherty; his youngest daughter, Deirdre Doherty; his cherished grandchildren, Keely Roman and Lukas Roman, and his good buddies William Lucken and Anthony Roman. He also leaves behind many adored nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Mortuary’s Holy Redeemer Chapel, 5835 W. Slauson, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 13, with burial to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Los Angeles.
